12/1/2020
Physiatrists James Klejka, M.D., and Travis Cleland, D.O., have joined Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center’s newly-formed division of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. The addition of this medical specialty will enhance the diagnosis and treatment of neuromuscular and musculoskeletal injuries and disorders at Crystal Clinic, including non-surgical treatments to improve patients’ quality of life and functional abilities.
“It has been the long-term vision of the leadership of Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center to offer physical medicine and rehabilitation services, including non-surgical treatment options for the comprehensive care of a wide range of neuromuscular and musculoskeletal injuries and conditions,” said Holli Cholley, R.N., B.S.N., M.B.A., Chief Nursing and Operations Officer. “We are thrilled this vision has become a reality with Dr. Klejka and Dr. Cleland.”
Dr. Klejka has been providing electrodiagnostic testing at Crystal Clinic on a consultative basis to diagnose peripheral nerve disorders and conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, nerve injuries from the spine, muscle diseases such as muscular dystrophy, motor neuron diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and neuromuscular junction disorders such as myasthenia gravis. Electrodiagnostic testing aids in the diagnosis of these conditions by measuring electrical activity in the muscles and nerves to determine the cause of pain, weakness or numbness.
“Crystal Clinic’s neurophysiology lab is now the only one in Summit County to be accredited by the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM),” said Dr. Klejka, who serves as the Medical Director of the lab. “Our neurophysiology lab has received Accreditation with Exemplary Status, which is the highest level of accreditation given by the AANEM, demonstrating Crystal Clinic’s commitment to maintaining the highest quality electrodiagnostic services.”
Dr. Klejka joins Crystal Clinic from Summit Rehabilitation Medicine. He received his medical degree from The Ohio State University in Columbus, and completed his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at The Ohio State University Hospitals. Dr. Klejka is board-certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation, and in electrodiagnostic medicine.
While Dr. Klejka will provide electrodiagnostic services, Dr. Cleland will provide clinical care in musculoskeletal medicine. Dr. Cleland joins Crystal Clinic from the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, where he most recently served as Director of Electromyography, Associate Director of the Division of Musculoskeletal.
Rehabilitation, and Director of Acute Musculoskeletal Medicine. He graduated from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie, Pa., and completed his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at MetroHealth Medical Center/Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland. Dr. Cleland is board-certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation, and in electrodiagnostic medicine.
“I look forward to enhancing the musculoskeletal care that Crystal Clinic currently provides through close collaboration with an outstanding team of orthopaedic surgeons and a dedicated rehabilitation team with focused training in advanced orthopaedic rehabilitation methods,” said Dr. Cleland. “Crystal Clinic is a leader in providing Nationally Renowned Orthopaedic CareTM. By now offering physical medicine and rehabilitation services, we will continue to advance patient care at Crystal Clinic.”
