Crystal Clinic Surgeon Curt Noel, M.D., Helps Design State-of-the-Art Shoulder Prosthesis
3/20/2018
Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center surgeon Curtis Noel, M.D. was a member of the Exactech design team that developed the Equinoxe® Stemless Shoulder, a state-of-the-art bone conserving and canal sparing prosthesis that is compatible with the Equinoxe® Shoulder System. Exactech, a leading developer and producer of bone and joint restoration products and biologic solutions for extremities, knee and hip, has received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to market the Equinoxe® Stemless Shoulder.
Total shoulder replacement is the fastest growing type of joint replacement, which replaces the damaged part of a shoulder to recreate the natural contours of the bone in a healthy shoulder. Designed for anatomic total shoulder arthroplasty, the Stemless Shoulder uses a three-dimensional porous structure with optimized pore size, count and porosity and incorporates a bone cage for bone through-growth to enhance the probability of biologic fixation. Stemless shoulder replacement is less invasive and works particularly well in younger patients by allowing the surgeon to preserve more bone.
“The global trend in total shoulder design is to use less and less metal on the humeral side. It is exciting to be part of an innovative design team and one of the few orthopaedic companies that has been able to bring this technology to the surgeons and patients in the United States,” said Dr. Noel.
